The Lockdown Island Thoughts Of … STEVIE NIMMO
Occupation and Brief Resume: Musician, strummer of the odd guitar, singer and writer of the odd tune. Born and bred in Glasgow, Scotland, Stevie Nimmo’s guitar sounds as raw and emotive as any guitar player’s you’ll ever encounter. In other words, Stevie Nimmo plays the blues. Earlier in the year – before the lights went down in venues everywhere – it was announced Stevie would be joining his brother, Alan, in the phenomenal blues band King King, alongside Jonny Dyke, Zander Greenshields and Andrew Scott. Stevie also likes bicycles. A lot!
FILMS:
Good film I’ve watched recently: Roadhouse! (And why not!! The magnificent and very sadly late lamented guitar genious that was Jeff Healey is in it. Also, it is just bloody good fun! – CHR)
One of the best films I’ve ever watched: Black Rain.
Got to be good if he’s in it: Michael Douglas or Gene Hackman
Got to be good if she’s in it: Sandra Bullock
TV Series Not To Be Missed And Why: Quincy – it’s just the best, ever!!
Best Ever Comedy Series And Why: Only Fools And Horses – comedy genius!
Funniest Stand Up Comedian: Billy Connelly.
MUSIC RECOMMENDATIONS!!!!
3 great albums you must listen to:
Amos Lee.
Walter Trout – Tellin’ Stories
Dixie Chicks – Taking The Long Way
3 songs you must listen to:
Chinatown – Thin Lizzy
Night Train – Guns ‘n Roses
What Are You Listening To – Chris Stapleton
A Great Band/Artist You Need To Check Out And Why: Cinelli Brothers – best new blues band I’ve heard in years!
Best artist/band you’ve seen live and why: Way too many but Eric Bibb way back in the day. Just him and a slide guitarist in the back room of a pub, proved that a good song and a performer who knows how to connect with the audience is sometimes all it takes.
READING MATTERS:
Best Novel: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Mark Twain.
Best Biography: Lionel Messi
Best Autobiography: Slash: The Autobiography.
A Single Poem to Inspire: Anything by Jacques Prevert.
FOOD:
Your signature dish: I tend to just grab loads of ingredients and see what happens!!
FAVOURITE RESTAURANT YOU CAN’T WAIT TO BOOK A TABLE IN: Hard Rock Cafe simply for some ribs and buffalo wings!!
DRINK: A good recommendation to chill out with would be Irn Bru because it’s Irn Bru and I don’t drink alcohol!
ACTIVITY SUGGESTION FOR FILLING IN THE DAY WITH KIDS OR NOT:
Get out fixing a bike or riding a bike with or without kids. Both are extremely therapeutic.
YOUR GREATEST DIY ACHIEVEMENT THAT HAS SURVIVED THE TEST OF TIME … and what made you attempt it: The constant mending of a guitar strap I’ve had since 1993! It’s held together with various bits of gaffa tape and whatnot, but I still trust it with any of my guitars.
SOMETHING THAT MIGHT INTEREST YOUABOUT ME IS: I’m a qualified bicycle mechanic!
HOLIDAY OF A LIFETIME – when this is all over – Some quality time with family in Cornwall!
3 LUXURIES YOU’D TAKE WITH YOU TO A DESERT ISLAND AND WHY (Nothing that might aid an escape, messaging or making contact with civilisation allowed): A guitar. My family. An exercise bike; I’d take a real one but f*ck trying to ride on sand!
A PIECE OF WISDOM TO PASS ON: Life’s too short to worry about trivial things. Be nice to good people, keep negative people out of your life and you’ll be just fine. Oh, and don’t eat yellow snow!
ONE THING YOU HOPE COMES OUT OF ALL OF THIS: That people will just stop being arseholes to each other!
